Eyeball

Practicing drawing on photoshop with color. Probably could've used soem reference for the top eyelid but class was ending. The iris didnt turn out as round as I had hoped but not bad imo. Learned a little from this exercise.

Added texture. It does wonders. I shall do this in future digital work. Although it feels like cheating by grabbing an image online and using it as an overlay. I need to work on warping the texture even more. Also need more work with the top eye lid.
Assignment was to make a reaction with a person from shoulders up. Person had to have a ponytail.

I made the animation of the body and head. It was originally two to three times longer. It obviously moved too slow, so I removed those frames.

Going to need to need some more frames at the start, so it doesn't start right away.

Bouncing Ball in Perspective with a Tail

Pretty interesting assignment. Not as difficult as the triangular flag.

Redone to fit assignment requirements.

Original version

Process
------

Started with a grid. Basic one point linear perspective

Added keyframes for the ball

Filled in the frames

Stretch and pull. The ball moved too quick so I set it to two exposure and filled in the frames since it was jumpy. Then I set it to two exposure again.

Added the skeleton of the tail. At the end and beginning of each bounce, the tail would jump around too jump. I added a frame inbetween and left it at one exposure.

Put in the rest of the tail. Heres the layers I used. Also the timeline since the exposure settings sounded a bit complicated. It's jsut a mix of one and two exposures. I think it worked out rather well.

Waving Triangular Flag

The basic animation for anything with a tail. Professor wasn't lying when she said this was gonna be hard.

Yertle the Turtle - Storyboard

A Dr Suess story or so I've heard. I was told not to look it up and just use my own imagination for the storyboards. Here's the story copied from my school's forums.
-----------------------------------------

Then Yertle the Turtle was perched up so high, He could see fourty miles from his throne in the sky! ?Hooray!? shouted Yertle. ?I?m the king of the trees! I?m king of the birds! And I?m king of the bees! I?m king of the butterflies! King of the air! Ah, me! What a throne! What a wonderful chair! I?m Yertle the Turtle! Oh, marvelous me!For I am the ruler of all that I see!?Then again, from below, in the great heavy stack, Came a groan from that plain little turtle named Mack. ?Your Majesty, please? I don?t like to complain, But down here below, we are feeling great pain.I know, up on top you are seeing great sights, But down here at the bottom we, too, should have rights. We turtles can?t stand it. Our shells will all crack! Besides, we need food. We are starving!? groaned Mack.?You hush up your mouth!? howled the mighty King Yertle. ?You?ve no right to talk to the world?s highest turtle. I rule from the clouds! Over land! Over sea! There?s nothing, no, NOTHING, that?s higher than me!?

I had to rethink the tower of turtles. the story stated 200 turtles. and he could see from his throne 40 miles out. :x did some math since i missed it and its actually about 80ft up if we're assuming a 6ft person can see 3 miles out on ground level. I wanted big turtles so 1ft high when laying down and because its easier to calculate. so its about 2.5 turtles per row.

At the end of the story, Mack burps and the turtle tower tumbles. So the tower cannot be stable. I originally thought of a pyramid of turtles but thats too stable [although it emphasized the labor imo]. Then i thought of a narrow tower which solved all my problems related to the tower. So it had to be a row of 2 or 3 turtles. Two works fine but.. the scene where I have Yertle hop out of his throne to stomp and yell at Mack. He would end up landing in between the turtles. Three seems more stable but really it isn't. Also drew possible ways to do three turtles.

There's Mack and Yertle who might have to be redone. The ugly bird thats going to be redone and I think the bee is fine which some touches.

The next one is the butterfly

More sketches. Bird in flight. Different Yertle drawings until I liked it. Found out I only liked him when i drew him at an angle. I also like the new Mack so i kept him.

Bouncing Ball

2D Animation Principles - Week One - Bouncing Ball
Create an animation of a bouncing ball. Apply the principles of animation.

Process
--------------------------------------------------
3 Apr. 2012 ~ 4:00PM
I created the arch and started to draw the ball along the arch like usual. However, I noticed my timing was a little off. I remembered forces and velocity in physics are applied to the x and y axis. Usually though, the velocity in x-axis is constant to keep things simple. So I applied that theory in my animation.

I brought up a grid and made a frame at each vertical line. The animation went a lot smoother, but it was too quick. I stretched out the timeline and added more frames to smooth the animation out. Worked out perfectly.

Next thing I noticed was the camera. It was set to 1980 x 1080 so that wasn't a problem. The problem was I didn't know my work area and drew too large. I created a camera layer and double clicked it til a properties window came up. I changed the z-axis to zoom out, changed the y-axis to bring the work lower on the camera, and changed the x-axis so that my ball comes in from the left side of the camera instead of just popping out of nowhere.

I decided to try raising the ground line and adding a shadow, it didn't look as good but we'll see how it turns out in the near future.

I tried rendering, but I couldn't get it to render at 1280 x 720 [even though it was set to it]. I'll try it out some more later.

5 Apr. 2012 ~ 9:00PM
learned to upload to the school ftp server. I might have to find a more permanent server later since school servers get wiped every quarter.

9 Apr. 2012 ~ 12:10AM
I gave up and used Youtube.

10 Apr. 2012
Critiqued. The main thing is the ball size. I did reduce the width of ball when i stretched it, but it wasn't enough. Its noticable on the second bounce when the ball just goes to its normal size really quickly.

Reworked. Hopefully I fixed this issues.

2D Animation Principles and Storyboarding

The classes seem fun so far. I will repost my work and process on this blog.
